Clay Sculpture taught by Anne Gregerson
Thursday, June 28th and Friday, June 29th 9 AM - 3 PM
In this workshop you will create a self-portrait head in terra cotta clay, which will then be fired. Proportions, facial features, and expressions will be demonstrated. Rather than creating an exact likeness, you will express something about who you are, using symbolic objects attached to the head. Come with ideas and reference images for the objects you want to use.
Anne Gregerson has studied at the Tucson Museum of Art School and earned a BFA in fine art with an emphasis in sculpture from BYU. As a certified K-12 educator she has taught art for several years in Utah schools. She exhibits her work in regional and national shows, and is represented by “A Gallery” in SLC and “Marshall-LeKae Gallery” in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Macro digital Photography taught by Roz Newmark
Monday, July 2nd and Tuesday, July 3rd 9 AM - 3 PM
What does life really look like up close? Come join in the arranging and photographing of inanimate life. In this class we will each bring a collection of objects that have personal meaning or interest. We’ll examine how different light and backgrounds affect the overall feeling or mood of our still-life. Bring a digital camera with a close up setting and general knowledge of how to use it (even a phone camera will do, if that is all you have access to). Also, bring in small personal treasures and found natural objects to photograph.
Roz Newmark has been a professional photographer for almost four decades. She has studied at the Center for Photographic Studies and holds a degree from Franconia College. Her work has been published in numerous books and shown in the Ansel Adams Gallery. Recently, Roz has been photographing objects up close—life in stillness. She is also a dancer, musician, and performing artist.

Fairy Tales contain a wealth of images and symbols—some familiar, others more hidden just waiting to be discovered. You will be drawing on this rich, intriguing tradition to create a mixed-media shadow box that brings your unique inner story to life. Assemblage techniques of design, painting, sculpting, collage, and use of found objects will be explored. Many materials will be on hand, but bring images, pictures, figures, and found objects that will help you “tell” your tale.
Louise Fischman earned a BFA from Pratt Institute in New York and is a long-time teacher of art in schools and therapeutic art in hospitals and treatment facilities. Louise has studied at the Mosaic School in Ravenna, Italy and has co-created numerous public art projects including artwork at Jordan River Parkway and Primary Children’s Medical Center.

Expressive Painting taught by Carlos Perez
Thursday, July 12th and Friday, July 13th 9 AM - 3 PM
Have you always wanted to try your hand at painting but felt a bit intimidated? In this workshop you will be guided through the whole process of “expressive painting”—from initial idea, to basic sketch to composition to paint. Fine drawing skills are not a necessity because it’s all about telling your story through use of gestures, forms, and color. Bring your sketch book and/or ideas of what you closely identify with—people, animals, family, fashion, food, environment—whatever it is that you want to express.
Carlos Perez is an alumnus of the Art Access Teen Workshops. Since then he has acquired a BFA in art along with a minor in African-American studies and anthropology at the U of U. Born in Bronx, New York, his recent work draws from this city’s environment—creating expressions which display dynamic technique and vigorous color schemes.
