PARK CITY, UT – Utah Symphony | Utah Opera will again collaborate with educational music programs in Summit County this summer, providing opportunities for students to attend Deer Valley® Music Festival performances and receive coaching from Utah Symphony and Utah Opera musicians and staff.
As part of USUO’s educational outreach efforts, Utah Symphony and Utah Opera professionals will mentor and/or perform for attendees of the Utah Conservatory’s “Audition Preparation & Recorded Submissions for Actors” summer camp as well as young local musicians attending the Lyceum Music Festival at the Zermatt Resort in Midway and students involved with another local summer camp held at Park City High School and directed by Steve Fairbanks.
Most of these camps have worked with Utah Symphony | Utah Opera in previous years, and these collaborations continue to benefit the students involved in a unique way.
“Lyceum Music Festival participants look forward to working with and learning from Symphony coaches,” said Lyceum Music Festival Founder and Director Kayson Brown. “[These students] have the unique and valuable opportunity to sit face to face with professional musicians who are highly successful in their careers. [These] coaches and guest artists don’t simply instruct the students on the challenging repertoire, they laugh with them, inspire them, and show them how to embrace and fall in love with music every day.”
Students attending the Lyceum Music Festival at the Zermatt Resort will have the chance to participate in various sectionals and mentor sessions, including a chamber music master class with the Muir Quartet, DVMF’s resident string quartet, and presentations and performances by emerging professional quartets affiliated with DVMF’s “Emerging Quartets and Composers” training program. In addition to coaching, students will be able to attend two DVMF performances – the 1812 Overture concert on July 27 and Disney in Concert on August 3.
The summer camp held at Park City High School will start its third year of operation and collaboration with Utah Symphony | Utah Opera on June 25. Students will work in a special session with Utah Symphony Associate Conductor Vladimir Kulenovic and attend the Utah Symphony Patriotic Celebration Concert at Sundance Resort, June 29.
As part of the Utah Conservatory’s “Audition Preparation & Recorded Submissions for Actors” summer camp, Utah Opera Artistic Director Christopher McBeth and Utah Opera Mezzo-Soprano Resident Artist Sishel Claverie will offer their professional insight and speak to the class about how to make the most of auditions and how to make a positive impression through electronic submissions.
