CUAC is pleased to announce solo exhibitions by Levi Jackson and Josh Winegar. Both are photographers from Utah who are engaged with issues related to process and the landscape.
Levi Jackson: Don’t Force It, Son
Levi Jackson, a Brooklyn artist originally from Provo, just finished an MFA at Pratt Institute. Jackson uses a camera to produce art objects that exist as a result of the documentation of interventions the artist makes in the landscape. The art objects Jackson creates engage strongly with the traditions of sculpture as well as photography as they exist as landscape interventions, however ephemeral, as well as photographs. They have a strong relationship with formalism as they explore questions about designation and signaling that happens with a human presence or intervention, both sculpturally and through the framing process of the photographer.
Josh Winegar: Rapture
Josh Winegar, who received an MFA from Columbia College in Chicago, is a Utah artist and professor at Weber State University. His photographs are taken in the landscape. He then uses in-camera and studio processes to erase any traces of human presence from the landscape. His in-camera interventions engage both with traditional landscape photographic methods and ideas about the sublime that come from the traditions of landscape art and modernism. |
