"Dwelling in the Threshold" Salt Lake 7 Exhibit & "Reflect on Reflections" Exhibit @ Art Access (SLC: up through Feb 11)

Art Access/VSA Utah Announcement
Press Release
ART ACCESS GALLERY EXHIBITIONS
Salt Lake City, UT - January 5, 2011

Dwelling in the Threshold
in Art Access Gallery

Art Access Gallery is pleased to host Dwelling in the Threshold, the work of the Salt Lake Seven.

The Salt Lake Seven is a group of photographers who meet monthly with Kent Miles for instruction, mutual critique and support. According to Miles, they each pursue their individual work, but as a result of their commitment to and participation in the group, their photographs achieve a resonance that results in powerful group shows.

Photographers include: Steve Proctor, Brian Buroker, Greg Sumner, Carl Oelerich, Brett Howell, Alan Jackson, Justin Hackworth, Bill Patterson, Rocio Briceno and Kent Miles. Their work ranges from traditional silver-gelatin prints to pigment ink prints, from portraits to abstract to landscape to figure studies.

This broad range of diversity, though, must achieve cohesiveness and become a single unified exhibit. According to Miles, the focus for this show deals with the moment at which the photographer decides to release the shutter - the Threshold. He says, " To be an artist requires becoming attuned to the Threshold, and to dwell in the moments of clarity and awareness that lay between the imagination of a picture and its realization".

Reflect on Reflections
in Access II Gallery

Art Access II Gallery is pleased to host the work of two unique artists, Marci Erspamer and Scott Stanley.

Marci Erspamer's work deals with reflections, thus her title, "Reflect on Reflections". She explains, " Using reflective items such as glass, jars, tea cups and bottles, my work explores the dynamic between the objects that I paint and the effect that they have on each other. My hope is to initiate a dialogue about how our surroundings (people, places and things) shape who we are".

Scott Stanley has used his work to focus on his idea of home. He says,
" Home isn't just where a person lives. Our homes are built of all the many building blocks of daily life and we carry those wherever we go".

Stanley's work begins with stacks of reference books, Xerox's and sketches of the subject. He uses pen and ink, color pencil, layers of watercolor and acrylic paint. He often approaches his subject with humor and incorporates images of animals carrying homes on their backs.
