Hogle Zoo Art Show Now Accepting Entries
SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 7) - Utah's Hogle Zoo is looking for the "wildest" artists in Utah as it takes entries for its 18th annual World of the Wild Art Show. Entries for the exhibit can be submitted on Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Zoo. The show will then take place Jan. 29 through March 13 at Hogle Zoo.
"From the very first year we had a tremendous response and it was clear we were providing a venue for wildlife art that was lacking in the state. Now in its 18th year, the World of the Wild Art Show has grown into one of the best venues in the state for viewing wildlife art in all styles and mediums," Hogle Zoo Art Director Jameson Weston said. "Over the years of the show we have had well over 1,000 artists submit over 4,000 pieces of art work, and we've had everything from well known artists to artists as young as 3 years old participate."
Art will be judged by the 2011 juror Micol Hebron, Senior Exhibition Curator with the Salt Lake Art Center, and up for grabs is $1,000 in cash prizes.
The World of the Wild Art Show started as an outlet to provide Utah artists an opportunity to display their works of wildlife and "wild nature" in a setting complementary to their work.
A private opening reception will be held Friday, Jan. 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Zoo's auditorium after which the art will be on display for public viewing until March 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Most of the artwork on display will be available for purchase as well as this year's poster of "Eli" the orangutan, by Pamela Poulsen.
For information on entry please visit the Zoo's website at www.hoglezoo.org or call (801) 584-1739
