SUU's Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery Presents OTHER LANDS
Student-Produced Exhibit January 11-29

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Other Lands highlights the natural wonders that can be found in Southern Utah as well as showcase the design skills and imaginative prospective of some of SUU's most talented designers. It offers a unique chance to see two student-produced exhibits at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery. The Contemporary Landscape Photography class and Publication Design class have partnered to produce two very different and original exhibits. Other Lands, part of the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery Nature of Art exhibit, is made possible with funding from the SUU Outdoor Initiative Fund. Other Lands opens on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, and will continue through Saturday, January 29, 2011. The gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Admission is free and the General Public is encouraged to attend.

The Contemporary Landscape Photograph class has spent five weeks researching and creating three interactive sculptural installations. Each of which examines the ideas of memory, physical and perceptual existence, and interaction between the landscape and humans. In the Publication Design class each student has created a unique book design based on Lewis Carroll's beloved children’s classic Alice in Wonderland. The each book was then photographed in different Southern Utah wilderness locations and compiled into a catalog which reflects the Wonderland provided by Southern Utah's extraordinary nature experience. Reproductions of the books are available for purchase and all proceeds will benefit the National Parks Conservation Fund.

Others Lands is a student produced exhibit. For more information about this exhibit, visit www.suu.edu/pva/artgallery or call (435) 586-5432. The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery’s mission is to exhibit, collect and preserve historic and contemporary works of art significant to the interior American West. In addition, the Gallery hosts art exhibitions that represent the principal artistic styles and periods of world cultures.
