Life Drawing Workshop at Bountiful/Davis Art Center, June 18, 2011

Bountiful, Utah, May 31, 2011 – Bountiful/Davis Art Center is presenting a Life Drawing Workshop taught by Robert Barrett on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Robert Barrett is one of Utah’s most celebrated life drawing instructors (BYU) and author of Life Drawing: How to Portray the Figure with Accuracy and Expression.

The day will be broken up into two sessions. Register for both sessions for $90 plus a $10 model fee and save $12. You can also register for individual sessions for $50 plus a $7 model fee. Class space is limited and priority will be given to those attending the full day.

Morning Session: 9:00am-12:00pm
The morning session will utilize a nude model. This session will start with gesture drawing (quick studies.). As it progresses the poses will get longer. Techniques for measuring and blocking in the figure will be discussed.

Afternoon Session: 1:00pm – 4:00 pm
The afternoon session will feature a draped model. The concept of measuring and gridding will be covered as well as how to handle drapery and light and shadow.

Other Educational Activities this Summer:
BDAC is the place to be on the third Monday of each month for ‘Family Art Night’. Bring the whole family to do a hands-on art project, learn about the current exhibit and do a fun “I Spy” activity in the gallery geared for children of all ages. Refreshments are served. The event is scheduled from 7-8:30pm June 20 (Nature Bracelets and Conservation Presentation), July 18 (Folk Costumed paper dolls) and August 15 (collage).

Robert Barrett
In addition to being an accomplished painter, muralist, and illustrator, Robert Barrett is also a professor in the Department of Visual Arts at Brigham Young University. He has exhibited his work in many arts shows including the Society of Illustrators in New York, the Directors Guild of America, N.Y., and the National Arts Club, N.Y. His work has also been exhibited at the Annual Springville Salons, Bountiful/Davis Art Center, St. George Art Museum, Kimball Art Center, Repartee Gallery, BYU and the Busam Gallerie in Berlin, Germany.

He received a BFA in Painting from the University of Utah and an MA and MFA in painting from the University of Iowa. In 1995 he was awarded the Karl G. Maeser Award for Teaching Excellence at BYU and in 2004 he was awarded the Karl G. Maeser Research and Creative Arts Award.

He is a member of the Society of Illustrators, the Pastel Society of America, the Portrait Society of America and the Salmagundi Club. He has assisted Bountiful/Davis Art Center with the Illustrators Utah! exhibit in past years and will help coordinate this exhibit in 2011, September 16 – November 4. This exhibit features Utah’s premiere illustrators and is a competition.
