WE ARE MIRRORS REFLECT A FAMILIAL PAST
Local musicians Josh Warburton and Tosha Carter were destined, it seems, to make music together. When these two singer-songwriters first linked up as a musical duo in 2012, they didn’t know that a family legacy predated their own musical union by more than 30 years.
Josh and Tosha first came together by chance at a local open mic event in 2012. After each heard the other perform, they talked offstage and decided to try performing a number together. They exited to the parking lot, quickly learned the song “Crazy” by Gnarles Barkely, and reentered the venue and performed it together.
Months passed before the duo met up again. Reconnecting at another open mic event, Josh and Tosha decided to once again try performing a song together. A special musical synergy was evident as the two sang and played, and they made plans to meet up and jam together. But by December, jam sessions were a thing of the past and the two musicians were rehearsing to perform live public shows.
Tosha came up with the name “We Are Mirrors,” inspired by a conversation she’d had with Josh. It was about that same time the two discovered they shared an unknown musical history: Back in the early 1980s, Josh’s dad, James (Jesse) Warburton, had been in a band with Tosha’s aunt Donna Carter. The musical apples hadn’t fallen far from the tree, it seemed.
Just a few short months after Josh and Tosha first came together and transitioned from jam sessions to performance gigs, We Are Mirrors is set to release its first EP featuring four original songs, and the duo is gearing up for some pretty auspicious performance events right out of the gate. “We have basically gotten opportunities that really are rarely ever available to new artists,” Josh Warburton said.
