Salt Lake City, UT – Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) is pleased to present EXTRA and Beyond, a series of screenings by cult filmmakers Mike Cassidy, Trent Harris, Diane Orr, and C. Larry Roberts. Curated by Moving Image and Sound Archivist Molly Rose Creel and the Special Collections department at the University of Utah J. Willard Marriott Library, this series will start with a compilation of stories from KUTV’s early 1970s program EXTRA. The following lineup of clips and films will showcase unique productions created by this generation of offbeat and experimental directors.
In conjunction with the Utah Biennial: Mondo Utah, this series of screenings expands on the film component of the 2013 biennial through a survey of television segments and motion pictures. Beginning on August 10th, Extra and Beyond will introduce museum goers to early episodes of Extra, a quirky, investigative news program from KUTV where these Utah filmmakers got their start. The subsequent screenings will take a closer look at distinct projects as way to highlight the filmmaker’s individual careers.
