Greetings Utah Museums!

We are happy to announce that Lynnette Hiskey has been appointed Director of the Utah Division of Arts & Museums following a nationwide search. Lynnette has worked with the Division for the past nine years and before that managed Salt Lake County's Zoo, Arts and Parks Program. Congratulations, Lynnette!

Proposed cuts to NEA/NEH
Last week the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee recommended $71M (49%) budget cuts for the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts. These organizations have already absorbed 20% budget reductions over the past three years. Many museums in Utah benefit from NEA and NEH funding. Although this is an early stage in the budget process, if this is important to you, you can send a personalized message to your representative. Click here for the NEA and here for the NEH.

See the conference program here. Early birdregistration ends July 31.

Museum Brochure
We are updating our museum brochure in collaboration with the Utah Museums Association and the Utah Humanities Council. Museum Specialist Curtis Ashton is spearheading the project. We will continue to encourage people to visit the online museum directory on the UMA website, but we see the value in having a publication for visitors bureaus. You can help us ensure that your information is correct by checking your listing on the online directory and letting us know of any updates at whassan@utah.gov.

Change Leader Institute
The Change Leader Program is a professional development course with an active network of more than 150 course graduates. The next Institute has been scheduled for November 11-13 in Moab. The participation fee is $100-$400 based on organization's size. We are especially seeking candidates from Beaver, Carbon, Daggett, Emery, Uintah, Juab, Morgan, Piute, Sevier and Wayne counties

Creative Aging Resources
EngAGE Utah has a library of creative aging resources, publications, videos, and research reports. One of the recent additions is Opening Doors to Memory and Imagination: Creating a Museum Program for People with Memory Loss. Adapted after the NYC's Meet Me at MOMA program, it addresses low cost ways to provide services to older adults.

Google Art Project
Explore art collections from around the world at the Google Art Project and watch Art Talks with curators and museum professionals, like this one with the Museum of Modern Art.
Blue Star Museums
Eighteen Utah Museums are participating in the Blue Star Museums program, more than 2,000 museums across the country that provide free admission to active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
