Tue, Aug 6, 2pm (kids) & 4pm (teens)
Thu, Aug 8, 2pm (kids) & 4pm (teens)
Main Library | 210 East 400 South | 801-524-8200
CUAC and The City Library combine forces to offer
unique, FREE art workshops for kids (ages 4–12) and teens
(ages 13–18). Participants will learn about using storytelling
and performance as creative expression. While creating original
works of art, kids and teens will learn essential art theories
and gain historical perspective into how art from decades and
centuries past influence art today and tomorrow. Each day will
present a new experience and new information, and participants
are encouraged to attend as many or as few sessions as
their schedule allows—no registration necessary.
STORY ART FOR KIDS
Tue, Aug 6, 2pm | Main Library, Children's Library
Storytelling is an important and powerful aspect of artistic expression.
Learn about different ways to tell stories with art, how
artists in the past infuse their work with narratives, and use
watercolors to tell your own story about aliens and the worlds
beyond our Earth. Suitable for ages 4–12.
STORY ART FOR TEENS
Tue, Aug 6, 4pm | Main Library, Canteena
Sounds and audio can be used as an artistic medium, especially
when telling stories. Learn about how to use sound, the
spoken word, and storytelling as artistic media, and try your
own hand (or vocal cords) at developing story-based audio art.
Suitable for ages 13–18.
PERFORMANCE ART FOR KIDS
Thu, Aug 8, 2pm | Main Llibrary, Children's Library
Unleash your artistic super powers with movement, space, and
costume in this performance art workshop for kids. Explore the
history of superheroes, develop your own alter ego, and create
a personalized mask to wear while performing as your superself.
Suitable for ages 4–12.
PERFORMANCE ART FOR TEENS
Thu, Aug 8, 4pm | Main Library, Canteena
Superheroes reveal what our culture holds as our highest ideals
(and often what we perceive as great weaknesses). Learn about
culture concepts of the superhero, then use these ideas to explore
performance art and how artists use their body, physical
space, and time as artistic media. Suitable for ages 13–18.
CUAC art experts will also host special events during the Main
Library’s regular kids’ crafts times on Wed, Aug 7, 4pm and
Sat, Aug 10, 2pm.
This program is supported by The Sam and Diane Stewart Family Foundation, Salt Lake City Public Library, R. Harold Burton Foundation, and The Lawrence T. Dee and Janet T. Dee Foundation.
