UTAH ARTS ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES CONNECT

The Utah Arts Alliance (UAA) presents Connect, a free monthly event held for artists and the community. A casual atmosphere where artists can mingle and showcase their art with a three piece maximum. Attendees are also encouraged to vote on their favorite works of art through a secret ballot giving artists the opportunity to be entered into a year-end competition to win grant money.

The purpose of Connect is to build an empowered art community by providing an open place that allows artists and the community to interact. Connect strives to create new opportunities for artists through peer reviews and secret ballot voting to give artists a chance to win grant money.

Connect takes place the second Friday of the month from 7:00-9:00pm. The invited guest speaker starts around 8:00 and speaks for 15 minutes about their art and the tricks and trades of the industry. Each months speaker focuses on their arts' medium that the event is themed around.

Artist Grant Voting ? Attendees are encouraged to vote for their favorite works of art through a secret ballot. The artist who earns the most votes on event night is invited back to showcase at the end of year gathering to compete with each months winners for grant money. All types of mediums are admitted and are eligible for voting. Artists can bring a maximum of three pieces.

Guest Speaker ? Heath Montgomery grew up apprenticing in trade skills; learning craftsmanship and an eye for detail. Montgomery's ideas spur from nature and an influence of traditional pottery forms; his pottery is a mix of thrown and hand built pieces. With a strong dedication to the timeless and permanence of pottery Montgomery has created an image all his own.
