FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SALT LAKE ACTING COMPANY ANNOUNCES ‘FEARLESS FRINGE FESTIVAL’

Salt Lake Acting Company is excited to announce its second annual Fearless Fringe Festival generously supported by the John and Marcia Price Family Foundation. The Festival goes deeper into SLAC’s mission by supporting theatre artists who are willing to take risks and develop brave, new work. On August 26, 27, & 28, 2011, SLAC will showcase three new pieces that are unique in presentation: Do Not Hit Golf Balls Into Mexico by Shawn Fisher, Little Happy Secrets by Melissa Leilani Larson and Making Waves by Heidi Van Ert. Three playwrights, each with plays in different phases of development, have been given the opportunity to see where their work stands with the assistance of space, simple set pieces, lights, sound, and most importantly an audience. Something unique and important is about to unfold at SLAC. We invite you to experience the Fearless Fringe Festival.

On Friday, August 26 at 7 pm and on Saturday, August 27 at 8:30 pm, SLAC will present LITTLE HAPPY SECRETS by Melissa Leilani Larson. In this play, Claire and Brennan reunite after serving their LDS missions years apart. LITTLE HAPPY SECRETS is wry, raw, and unspoken love story that attempts to look beyond the weight of judgment. The playwright says, “For me, personally, being judgmental is the sin that is easiest to commit, and therefore the hardest to overcome. It’s so easy to meet someone and put them in a box. Writing Little Happy Secrets was my vehicle to tell a simple story as honestly as possible.” LITTLE HAPPY SECRETS features: Emily Bell, Emily Burnworth, Elise Groves & Alex Ungerman. Director: Dave Mortensen.

On Friday, August 26 at 8:30 pm & on Saturday, August 27 at 4 pm, SLAC will present DO NOT HIT GOLF BALLS INTO MEXICO by Shawn Fisher. When bones are discovered in the desert, the investigation begins. This play uncovers an unexpected tale of family, ghosts, and borders, and of Minutemen in America. Director Adrianne Moore says, “Immigration, nationality and self identification are intriguing themes and are of great pertinence to a Utah audience.” DO NOT HIT GOLF BALLS INTO MEXICO features: Mary Alley, John Belliston, Lucas Bybee, Richie Call, Shanice Holt, Jessica Jackson, Andrew Rindlisbach, Christian Seiter & Felicia Stehmeier. Director: Adrianne Moore

On Saturday, August 27 at 6:30 pm and on Sunday, August 28 at 12 pm, SLAC will present MAKING WAVES by Heidi Van Ert, in collaboration with Katherine Dalton and Amanda Waterhouse. This script asks its audience, ‘Who was the teacher who helped you become who you are now?’ Entertaining and unflinching, MAKING WAVES is about teachers - in the biggest, grandest, most expansive sense of the word. Playwright, Heidi Van Ert describes her call to action, “In this play, we want to help people to consider teaching as a noble, valuable profession. It is for those who think that teaching is easy, and for those who know that it’s hard. If you can’t remember one teacher who had a positive impact on your life, then you already understand what the problem is.” This interactive production honors the teachers that shaped and informed the present moment. MAKING WAVES features: Amber Myer, Joshua Long, Nicole Robinson & Heidi Van Ert. Director: Jared Larkin.

All three shows will be presented in SLAC’s Chapel Theatre. Tickets are $12 each or a Festival Pass is $24 and includes all three shows. Available at SLAC’s box office – 801.363.7522 or online at saltlakeactingcompany.org.
