Fruit and Honey Farm Tour @ Downtown Farmers Market (SLC: Aug 17)

Fruit and Honey Farm Tour: August 17, 3-8:30 p.m.
Presented by the Downtown Farmers Market and Edible Wasatch

Salt Lake City - The Downtown Farmers Market and Edible Wasatch present a series of Farm Tours that focus on different aspects of local food production. This is the first year for the tours--influenced by the Market’s commitment to farm to fork education and buying local. Themes, prices, and times for each class will vary.

Details:
The second tour is focused on fruit and honey and will be August 17, 3-8:30 p.m.; tickets are $30 and include transportation and tastings. Patrons will meet at Salt Lake Art Center (20 S. West Temple). The tour begins with a guided tour of the Fallen Fruit exhibit; and local purveyor, The Hive, will offer an overview about fruit wines and juices.

From there, guests of the tour will travel by bus to the Historic Fruit Highway. At the farm of Tagge’s Famous Fruit, Cari and Thayne Tagge will discuss their orchard as they move towards organic certification. Martin James, beekeeper and owner of Slide Ridge Honey, will join the tour to talk about pollinators and their service to the orchard.

“At the Market, patrons shop for farm-fresh products from more than 100 regional growers,” said Kim Angeli-Selin, market manager. “These tours bring patrons directly to the source to gain a greater understanding of how local producers operate their businesses. Farmers Markets are such an important part of the food landscape in Utah, and these tours further our mission to connect the rural and urban communities in our state.”
