JOB: Director of Development @ SL Art Center

Salt Lake Art Center is pursuing a pioneering program of contemporary exhibitions designed to engage local residents while simultaneously participating in the national dialogue about and through contemporary art. The Art Center’s efforts to create a more stonger nexus with the community and the related flourishing of activity, referred to as the “Renaissance at the Salt Lake Art Center” by The Salt Lake Tribune, have led to a nearly six-fold growth in the Art Center’s audience in the last 18 months. The donor base has increased by 40% during that same time period. Salt Lake Art Center, a venue for contemporary art, was recognized as Utah's Best Museum in 2011.

ABOUT THE POSITION

TheSalt Lake Art Center seeks a talented and energetic Director of Development to work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees to secure resources for this rapidly growing institution. The Director of Development is responsible for the overall fundraising efforts of the Art Center and will be expected to conceptualize, plan, and execute a program that raises approximately $1 million annually in support of exhibitions, programs, events and special projects.The Director of Development will be expected to coordinate development activities with other departments, organize and inspire staff, trustees, and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals, and supervise subordinate development staff, including a part-time grant manager and membership/event coordinator.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree or higher, and minimum of four to six years of well-rounded fundraising experience, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, memberships, events, and grant writing, preferably with a background in or passion for visual art. Viable candidates must possess the ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and deadlines. Experience with development software (preferably Giftworks) required. The ideal candidate will have significant familiarity with the fundamental precepts, tools, and methodologies of arts organization fundraising.

Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are indispensable.

The Director of Development will have a capacity for hard work and be able to maintain not only a sense of humor but also a spirit of collegiality as part of a high-morale, creative, and ambitious team.
