ART INSIGHTS PRESENTS CERAMIC ARTIST JARED WARD
NOVEMBER 17, 2011

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Ceramicist Jared Ward has created a career for himself that combines his talent and his passion for education, giving him not only an impressive career but fulfilling as well. He will present on his artistic style and career as well as share what inspires and motivates him to create and educate at SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series, Art Insights, on Thursday, November 17, 2011. The lecture begins at 7pm at the Great Hall in the Hunter Conference Center. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Jared Ward has been teaching ceramics for eleven years at the secondary and post-secondary level. He finds fulfillment in balancing his love for this art form as well as helping his students discover their own potential. Outside of being an arts educator, he makes time to explore his own creative interests by challenging himself creatively and conceptually through making bold choices in his work. His pieces are bold and colorful but with a certain level of simplicity that sets them a parts and draws the viewer in. Recently he has been working to create ceramic work that more closely reflects his ideas about family, relationships, and our connection to the rest of the world. He feels a connection to functional pottery and the ease with which it can portray relationships. Besides his functional pottery, he has begun experimenting with ceramic sculpture and indulging the opportunity to portray abstract ideas. His recent experimentation has prompted a body of work that utilizes icons and pictograms to help convey his message of community.

Learn more about Jared Ward’s artistic vision and style by attending his Art Insights’ appearance. For more information on the SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts events, please call the Arts Hotline at (435) 865-8800, or visit www.suu.edu/arts.
