SUU’S ART INSIGHTS TO FEATURE
POST VISUAL EFFECTS ARTIST RICHARD ENRIQUEZ
NOVEMBER 10, 2011

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Enhancing the spectacular aspects of Hollywood films, Richard Enriquez has tirelessly cultivated an impressive career for himself as a post visual effects artist. His work has enriched familiar movies such as “War of the Worlds” and “Avatar.” He will speak about his transition from earning an art/media degree to working in Hollywood. He will also discuss the ever-changing role of technology in the current cinematic landscape as a part of the SUU’s Art and Design Department’s weekly lecture series Art Insights, on Thursday, November 10, 2011. The lecture beings at 7pm at Centrum Arena: Section K, admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Upon graduating with a BFA in Motion Picture/Television Production from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2007, Richard Enriquez worked in documentaries before working in production on his first feature film, “Gus Van Sant’s Milk.” While working for and eventually directing the Second Wind Theatre Company, he continued in production doing commercials, and television in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York before being called by Pixar for Andrew Stanton’s “John Carter of Mars.”  As Assistant to Producer Colin Wilson (“Munich,” “War of the Worlds,” “Avatar”) he worked in production during prep and locations and visual effects while shooting on location in Big Water, Kanab, Delta, and Moab. After working in the art department and visual effects during post-production for “Carter,” he produced shorts for the Previsualization Society before leaving Pixar and moving to the UK to work on the Brad Pitt feature “World War Z,” again assisting the producers while shooting on location in London, Malta, Glasgow, and Budapest.  Richard now lives in Los Angeles and is currently working in the post VFX department for Sony’s reboot of Philip K. Dick’s “Total Recall.”

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
