SUU's Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery Presents
Senior BFA Show
December 1 – December 17, 2011
Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: The Senior BFA Show offers a chance to see the culmination of the work done by the senior Bachelor of Fine Art candidates, which spotlights their creativity and imagination. This unique showcase presents the culmination of student’s work while at Southern Utah University, and features a wide variety of mediums from printmaking to painting to pastels to photography and graphic design. This year’s exhibit features 12 talented students with a range of interests within the arts. The exhibit opens with a reception on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and will continue through Saturday, December 17, 2011. The gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.
The Senior BFA Show gives the graduating Art & Design students the opportunity to showcase their work in a recognized art gallery. Jeff Hanson, SUU Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, is looking forward to the community’s reaction to the high quality of work that will be shown. “This is a high level of work by people who have a future in this community as artists. This exhibit is a great opportunity to see up and coming work by talented professionals.” said Hanson. Lindsey Rigby, a graduating senior who will be exhibiting relief prints and oil paintings speaks about Southern Utah University and her experience in the art department. “It is nice to have small classes when other schools class sizes are so large. The SUU art teachers know you and where you are coming from and help you get there.” Another graduating senior in Graphic Design, J.J. Embleton says, “The professors teach you the fundamentals, but give you room to experiment and try new things. Spending this time on the work and the exhibit, and finally showing it to the community and having the work on display, the show will be a benefit to us all.”
Each year the Senior BFA Show gets bigger and better and is an exhibit that should not be missed! For more information about this exhibit, visit www.suu.edu/pva/artgallery or call (435) 586-5432. The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery’s mission is to exhibit, collect and preserve historic and contemporary works of art significant to the interior American West. In addition, the Gallery hosts art exhibitions that represent the principal artistic styles and periods of world cultures.
