STUDENT-CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE CONCERT
NOVEMBER 30 & DECEMBER 1-3, 2011
Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: It is a fusion of inspiration, movement and music. It is SUU’s Department of Theatre Arts and Dance’s vibrant Breaking Bounds: Student-Choreographed Dance Concert. This dynamic dance concert runs November 30th through December 3rd at SUU’s Auditorium Theatre, and all performances begin at7:30pm. Tickets are General Adult Admission: $10.00; SUU Faculty and staff: $8.00; Student & Youth: $5.00; and SUU students are admitted free with a valid I.D.
Mentored by SUU’s dance faculty, the concert spotlights the creativity of student choreographers who redefine themselves through their ability to put their vision onstage as performed by their fellow students. The choreographers have evolved from the classroom to the rehearsal studio and finally to creating art onstage. These student choreographers have been mentored by SUU’s gifted dance faculty: Kay Andersen, Chair, Theatre Arts and Dance Department; Paul C. Ocampo, Associate Professor of Dance; Chien-Ying Wang, Assistant Professor of Dance; and Shannon Vance, Assistant Professor of Dance.
Breaking Bounds features new works by Payden Adams, Karyn Allen, Camille Anthian, Rebecca Boizelle, Tiana Chambers, Ryanne Cochran, Heidi Powell, Cierra Reed, Katelin Ruzzamenti, Ariel Smith, Alex Wall and Eric Waits.
In addition, the student choreographers collaborate with student lighting and costumes designers who help bring their vision to the stage. The student lighting designers for Breaking Bounds are Emilie Anderson-Moulton, Jennifer Christensen, Kyle Cook, McKenzie Denison, Keilani Gleave, Miriam Gonzalez, Ruby Graves, Elizabeth Haight, Will Howard, Brian James, Amanda McMall, Molly Niederhauser, Rebecca Weber, and Emily Woods. The costume designers are Kristal Armistead, Natalia Castilla, Alissa Jonesand Wendy A. Sanders, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts. These design students are mentored by Sanders, as well as Jarrod Bray, Assistant Professor of Scenic & Lighting Design, and Brian Swanson, Assistant Professor of Theatre: Technical Direction.

SUU’s Theatre Arts and Dance Series continues with Almost, Maine; Little Women the Broadway Musical, and Journeys: Faculty Dance Concert.

The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree.
