SUU’S CHORAL ENSEMBLES PRESENT
POPULAR HITS IN “WANTING MEMORIES”
February 25, 2011

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Pop music with a choral twist! Join the SUU choral ensembles on Friday, February 25, at the Heritage Center Theater for "Wanting Memories," an evening of music inspired by musicians such as Billy Joel, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and general admission adult tickets are $8, $6 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $4 for students and children and SUU students attend free with a valid student ID.

“Wanting Memories” will feature performances from SUU’s vocal ensembles Les Chansons, Concert Choir and OPUS. Under the direction of Jackie Riddle-Jackson, Les Chansons, SUU’s all women’s ensemble, will perform pieces arrange specifically for women’s voices including “Heart we will forget him” by James Mulholland. SUU’s largest choral ensemble, Concert Choir, under the direction of Sara Guttenberg, includes performances Robert Schumann’s exciting “Ziguenerleben” and Ysaye Barnwell’s moving “Wanting Memories.”

The University’s premiere vocal ensemble, OPUS, under the direction of Keith Bradshaw, will present a selection of popular songs arranged for choir including “Goodnight, My Angel” by Billy Joel, and “Yesterday” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. OPUS is a select chamber choir of twenty-five voices who perform a wide variety of choral literature ranging from sixteenth century madrigals to contemporary music.

Join these outstanding choral ensembles from SUU’s Department of Music in a concert of choral favorites and popular adaptations of famous pop hits. ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. More than 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over 550 majors in the College.
