SUU’S ART INSIGHTS SHOWCASES

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Nathan Walton uses graphic design to create visually dynamic web designs. The graphic artist and educator shares his insights and perspective during his appearance at SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series, Art Insights, on Thursday, February 17, 2011. The lecture begins at 7pm at SUU’s Great Hall in the Hunter Conference Center. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Nathan Walton has studied or taught graphic design and typography for fifteen years. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University in 2006, with undergraduate degrees from BYU and Snow College. He's studied and worked in disciplines as diverse as letterpress printing, commercial print design, graphic design history, and web application design, along with personal work in bookbinding and relief printmaking.

Walton has worked for graphic design firms in Utah and Arizona and for educational departments at Indiana University, and he is currently an art director at Brigham Young University's Center for Teaching and Learning. At BYU he's focused on web design that improves students' and professors' lives, working on projects from online grade books to the university's main home page. He also teaches graphic design classes there.

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree.
