WIND ENSEMBLE CONCERT

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: A sentimental musical journey awaits when the SUU Wind Ensemble sweeps you away to the English Country Side, takes you to an amusement park of yesteryear, and evokes memories of a crisp autumn day. This Music Masterworks Series Wind Ensemble Concert will be held at the Heritage Center Theater on Friday, February 18, at 7:30pm. General admission adult tickets are $6, $4 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $3 for students and children and SUU students attend free with a valid student ID.

Dr. Mark Stickney will be directing the Wind Ensemble in a diverse program, including American Overture for Band by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, October by contemporary composer Eric Whitacre, Blue Shades, by Frank Ticheli, and Rocky Point Holiday by Ron Nelson, inspired by Rocky Point amusement park located in Warwick Neck, RI. Select students from the music department will also take the podium, leading the Wind Ensemble through Ralph Vaughan Williams English Folk Song Suite and Philip Sparke's Ballad for Benny.

The SUU Wind Ensemble is made up of the top wind and percussion students at SUU. The ensemble is committed to the performance of the highest quality contemporary and traditional works in the wind band repertoire. Innovative concerts, adventurous programming, and high-level music-making are the hallmarks of this select ensemble. In the past few years, the Wind Ensemble has performed a number of premiers, including the American premier of Wind Layers, by Swedish composer Rolf Martinsson, and the world premier of Portrait of a Soldier, by Randy Dulaney.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. More than 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over 550 majors in the College. Over 1100 students enroll each year in over 195 arts classes on the SUU campus. The College presents 100 performances, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions each year.
