WSU
Department of Performing Arts piano students Fan-Ya Lin and Zoe Lu have
received recognition and acceptance in the national music community.
Fan-Ya performed at Carnegie Hall March, 31. As Yang reported, "She was
also awarded the special "Best Performance at the Winners Concert"
grand prize by the president of the American Protege International Piano
and Strings competition after the concert. They selected only one
person for the grand prize from all the strings and piano winners from
various age categories who performed that evening at the winners
concert. He told Fan-Ya that she totally captured the attention of the
audience, and that she would have the most promising future as a concert
artist! They also would like to contact her for possible future
performing opportunities."
In
addition, Fan-Ya has received the notification that she got into
Juilliard - again - for the Master´s program! She was originally accept
at Juilliard for her undergraduate studies but chose to attend WSU to
study with Yang.
Her
mentor says, "After five years of study at WSU, Fan-Ya is now ready and
excited to go to New York for the next stage of her music journey!
"Also,
another of my piano student Zoe Lu is admitted into the Manhattan
School of Music (the other renowned music school in New York) for their
Master´s program in piano! This is Zoe´s first choice of school in her
graduate school auditions! I am thrilled that both of them did so well
at their auditions! I am so proud of them for putting WSU´s piano
program so prominently on the music map, and make us now comparable to
all the best music programs nationally and internationally!!"
