Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Las Vegas-based photographer Paul Michael Sciacca’s work incorporates thoughtful composition and a unique, breathtaking luminescence that make it stand out from the crowd. His landscape photography, which feature stunning seascapes and the iconic landscape of the American Southwest, will be displayed on the 2nd floor of SUU’s Hunter Conference Center, beginning with a reception at 6:30pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Light refreshments will be served. The exhibition will continue until February 15, 2014, and is open Mon–Fri, 10am–5pm. The work will be available for purchase throughout. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Paul Michael Sciacca learned at an early age how to shoot pictures with a manual Canon 35mm camera. After college, he landed a job working on a film in New York. That experience led him to Hollywood to work full-time in makeup effects. After nearly 10 years in the film industry, he grew tired of the uncertainty and accepted a position with Disney. Following this experience, he set out on his own and began the company Creations Ink, developing relationships with major film studios to sculpt promotional toys. Though Creations Ink grew to a staff of 25 artists, the events of 9/11 influenced him to move on to individual pursuits such as web design, graphic design, and video production. These wide variety of experiences and explorations inform his singular photographic compositions, which emerge from the paper with color, light, and lines that offer a fresh perspective on his landscape subjects.
Sciacca believes fine art should be reasonably priced, making it available to a wide audience. He realized this after trying to purchase a photo at a Las Vegas art gallery. After learning that it cost more than his car, he invested in camera gear to recreate the photo himself. When friends saw it and asked how to get one, his photography career began.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to experience the talent of this emerging landscape photographer, whose varied career and experience have led to a product that mesmerizes audiences.
