SUU’S DEPT. OF MUSIC HOSTS
HIGH SCHOOL HONOR BAND CONCERT
JANUARY 11, 2014

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Exceptional high school instrumental students from across the intermountain west have been selected to perform musical selections under the direction of SUU's Dr. Adam Lambert, Director of Bands; and Dr. Thomas Herb, Director of Music Education and Jazz. Please join the SUU’s Department of Music in celebrating the next generation of musical talent with the High School Honor Band Concert at Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theater on Saturday, January 11, 2014. This concert begins at a special time 6:30pm and tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for faculty/staff and $3 for youth. SUU students are admitted free with a valid I.D. card.
The High School Honor Band Concert features outstanding student talent from high school orchestras in Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. These student performers are nominated by their band directors and selected through an audition process by SUU’s music faculty. The chosen students participate in two days of rehearsals and activities culminating in this exciting concert at the end of the second day that features the SUU Wind Symphony at the beautiful Heritage Center Theater in Cedar City, Utah.
According to Dr. Lambert, “this concert is a remarkable collaboration for both the SUU and high school students. The members of SUU Wind Symphony willingly share their time and expertise with these gifted high school musicians and watching them work together to produce some amazing sound is one of the great rewards of being a music educator. The festival culminates in a concert that promises to be a truly joyous event.”

The SUU Wind Symphony is an auditioned ensemble made up of the university's top wind and percussion students. The ensemble is committed to the performance of the highest quality contemporary and traditional works in the wind band repertoire. Innovative concerts, adventurous programming, and high-level music-making are the hallmarks of this select ensemble. In the past few years, the SUU Wind Symphony has performed a number of premiers, including the American premier of Wind Layers, by Swedish composer Rolf Martinsson, and the world premier of Portrait of a Soldier, by Randy Dulaney.

Come be a part of this great tradition of entertainment which honors the talent of the region’s finest young musicians and showcases SUU performers.
