“Utah Travels” Photo Exhibition
March 6 – April 30, 2014
Overview:
“Utah Travels” is a photo exhibit highlighting remarkable photographic images captured by Utahn’s during their diverse travel experiences. The exhibit allows an opportunity for professional and amateur photographers of all ages to publicly present their most distinct travel photos and to share the stories of their experiences with a short descriptive paragraph. Images may represent destinations thousands of miles away or a few miles from home. Photos accepted into the exhibit will reflect the beauty, richness and diversity of people, events, nature, culture and all that celebrates humanity and planet earth.
Requirements:
Professional and amateur photographers of all ages are invited to participate in the exhibit. A jury will make final decisions on selections. Artistic filters, Photoshop and other digital editing tools may be used. All subject matter from any time in history will be considered as long as the photographs are taken by the individual submitting the application. Images selected for exhibition must be delivered to the cultural center gallery printed, framed, and ready for hanging. Printed images must be at least 8x10. Larger size prints are strongly preferred. Exhibit selections will be made on the following criteria:
· Most striking images will be selected at the juror’s discretion
· Balanced representation of various categories of images (such as people, places, architecture, and nature, events, geographic, rural vs. urban settings, etc.).
Photographers may submit two (2) entries via email (.JPG files only) to michael.christensen@wvc-ut.gov. Please make sure your photos are of the highest quality possible. The Cultural Center will not accept hard copy submissions – please scan images and submit them as .JPG files only.
Along with each digital photo submission, photographers should include the following:
1) Artist’s Name
2) Title of Photograph; Location and Year
3) A two (2) or three (3) sentence description of the image that provides context or meaning
4) If known: camera model, settings, and any techniques used to capture or modify photo (to help the viewer understand the process)
5) By submitting this information the artist and/or owner of the photographs releases use of West Valley City and the Utah Cultural Celebration Center for online use, archival, promotional and other purposes.
There is no fee to submit your photographs. Cash prizes for $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded, based on three (3) categories: 1) People’s Choice Award (based on cumulative public voting through 6 p.m. on April 30, 2014); 2) Juror’s Award, and 3) UCCC Staff Award. Ribbons for other submissions may also receive special recognition from the juror.
Additional images will be selected and presented in digital format during the exhibition. We hope to include ALL photos submitted if possible, based on the number of images submitted. The UCCC reserves the right to exclude any image at our discretion.
Schedule and Deadlines:
