Job Summary | The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is located on the campus of the University of Utah and offers visitors the opportunity to explore more than 5,000 years of human creativity with a collection of almost 19,000 objects and artworks from classic Greek and Roman antiquities to cutting-edge, contemporary art. Founded in 1914, the UMFA is both the state of Utah’s and the University’s art museum, creating exhibitions and programs that serve a wide array of audiences. The UMFA is housed in the award-winning Marcia and John Price Museum Building. This position provides essential support for the Public Relations & Marketing Manager. |
Responsibilities | 1. Develops, in consultation with PR & Marketing Manager, overall strategic plan for social media and manages content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms. 2. Creates and distributes a monthly electronic media alert of events and exhibitions and manages listserv. 3. Assists Marketing Manager with preparation for press previews, including ordering and preparing materials and sending event reminders. 4. Maintains UMFA publicity record, updates internal bulletin board, and prepares press packet for UMFA Board. 5. Responds to general UMFA inquiries via e-mail and phone. 6. Helps coordinate UMFA’s participation in campus and community festivals, preparing promotional materials and representing UMFA on an as-needed basis. 7. Maintains distribution/contact list for promotional materials and handles distribution of materials across campus and Salt Lake City community. 8. Prepares project requests for UMFA graphic designer (for advertisements and promotional materials) as directed by Marketing Manager. 9. Prepares requests for purchase (for promotional efforts) for UMFAaccounting manager as directed by Marketing Manager. 10. Attends meetings relevant to museum work on an as-needed basis. Problem Solving The incumbent works independently while performing assigned tasks, but generally works as part of a team with input and guidance from the Marketing Manager when performing. The incumbent must adhere to strict timelines when coordinating the details of special events and marketing materials. Minimum Qualifications | Two years data entry experience or equivalency required (1 year of college education is equivalent to 2 years of related work experience). Proficiency in the use of data entry equipment and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required. The hiring department may require a minimum typing ability. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. |
Preferences | Preferred Qualifications 1. Interest in/knowledge of visual art. 2. Experience writing and producing newsletters, press releases, and/or other promotional copy. 3. Experience organizing special events and fundraising activities. 4. Ability to lift 40 lbs. 5. Experience working for a non-profit. 6. Valid driver’s license. |
