CEDAR CITY, UT—The Utah Shakespeare Festival has announced that Michael McLean will donate a portion of the proceeds for two performances of his popular holiday production “The Forgotten Carols” to the Festival. The performances will take place on Dec. 7 and 8 at Cottonwood High School (5715 South 1300 East, Murray, Utah) at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets to “The Forgotten Carols” and support the Festival visit www.forgottencarols.com .

“Michael McLean’s “Forgotten Carols” has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people since its inception,” said R. Scott Phillips, Festival executive director. “We are excited to be a part of this wonderful holiday tradition that has become so important to so many families throughout the west. As we are working to keep classic theatre alive and relevant so is Michael doing the same with his wonderful music and stories of ‘The Forgotten Carols’.”

“The Forgotten Carols” is the story of a rigid yet competent nurse who is assigned to care for an aged gentleman with alleged psychiatric tendencies over the holiday season. But her unlikely patient is nothing like the senile “crazy” she expected. With warmth and spunky kindness, he eventually breaks through her iron-clad exterior as he walks her through the untold carols of the more “forgotten” characters in the Christmas story and guides the young nurse to the Christmas carol waiting to be sung inside her own heart.

“‘The Forgotten Carols’ is a warm and heartfelt tradition,” said Bruce C. Lee, Festival communications director. “It is perfect to bring the holiday spirit into the heart of everyone, and we appreciate Mr. McLean donating the proceeds from these two evenings to the Festival. It is a very kind Christmas gift.”

Tickets are on sales now for the Festival’s 50th Anniversary season, which will run from June 23 to Oct. 29, 2011. The eight-play season includes Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Richard III,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “The Winter’s Tale.” The season will also include Meredith Wilson’s great American musical “The Music Man,” Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie,” Michael Frayn’s “Noises Off!” and the mystery thriller “Dial M for Murder” by Frederick Knott.
