Celebrate Recycling With Utah's Hogle Zoo
SALT LAKE CITY (Nov. 11) Utah's Hogle Zoo is celebrating America Recycles Day by rewarding guests for their "green" efforts. Visitors to the Zoo will receive $2 off any regular admission for each cell phone they turn in at the ticket office for recycling on Nov. 13, 14 and 15.
Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on Nov. 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States.
While Hogle Zoo recycles an abundance of materials, the discount will be given specially for cell phones because of their connection to gorillas. Cell phones contain coltan, which is mined in the rainforest - home to gorillas and other endangered animals. Recycling cell phones reduces the demand for coltan and leads to fewer toxins going into our landfills.
"Most people don't realize there is a correlation between cell phones and gorillas," Hogle Zoo Conservation Coordinator Liz Larsen said. "I am hopeful this promotion will highlight the importance of recycling your old cell phones, to reduce the demand on coltan which in turn will help protect gorillas and preserve their habitats."
Help Hogle Zoo celebrate America Recycles Day, and promote a cleaner and greener earth for everyone Nov. 13, 14 and 15! For more info visit hoglezoo.org
