Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents the Weber State Symphony Orchestra in its second concert of the 2010-11 season Sunday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Austad Auditorium of the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. Children 8 years and older are welcome to attend.
Three works will be presented on this concert. The program will open with the Overture to “La Clemenza di Tito” by Mozart. This popular overture is short and fast paced, with sparking melodic lines alternating with a lyrical theme. Next on the program will be J.S. Bach’s “Concerto in c minor for Oboe and Violin.” Kendra Johnson, adjunct professor of oboe, and Dr. Shi-Hwa Wang, professor of violin, will be soloists in this work. The Weber State Chamber Orchestra string section with WSU piano performance major Zoe Lu, harpsichord, will accompany the two soloists. Following the intermission the orchestra will gather it’s full complement of players for a performance of the “Symphony No. 3, Opus 90, in F Major” by Johannes Brahms.
Tickets for the concert are $5 for adults and $4 for students, seniors and those with military I.D. They can be purchased in advance at Dee Events Center Tickets, 1-800-WSU-TIKS. WSU students who pick up a complementary ticket from the Department of Performing Arts office, room 331 in the Browning Center, will be admitted free. Children 8 and over are welcome to attend. This concert is partially funded by student fees.
