Fan-Ya Lin, competing in the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (GJSO) Young Artist (ages 25 and younger) Concerto Competition on March 14th in Grand Junction Colorado, played the entire Mozart “Concerto K. 488 in A Major.” She won first place in this competition: $1,500 and an invitation to perform this concerto with the GJSO during the 2011-2012 season in Jan. 2012! Fan-Ya said that in the final round of the competition, open to the public, there were several WSU alumni in the audience who came to greet her after the competition. They were thrilled to hear her performance. They told Fan-Ya that they graduated from WSU and were so proud to know that she was selected the first place winner of this competition,

Fan-Ya also won the first place of the Aurora Symphony Concerto competition in the Senior Division in Feb., 2011 and was awarded $1000 prize money as well as the opportunity to perform the entire Prokofieff “Piano Concerto No. 3” with the Aurora Symphony Orchestra on May 21.

In addition, at the 2011 Utah Music Teachers Association State Concerto Competition on March 12th, Jared Jaccard won second place in the Collegiate Piano Division. (Fan-Ya was the first place winner in the collegiate piano division of this competition in 2009, and Miranda Wu was the 2nd place winner and Byron was the 3rd place winner in the collegiate piano division of this competition in 2010.)
