This show explores not only the confusing concept of love; it delves into the many wondrous and exhilarating effects love can have on all of us. Almost, Maine written by John Cariani has quickly become one of the most popular shows, being produced on regional stages all over the country.

EXPLORES THE MYSTERIES OF THE HEART IN
ALMOST, MAINE
Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: In one magical night, under the glow of the northern lights, love is found unexpectedly, knees are bruised, and some hearts are broken in Almost, Maine. This mystical romantic comedy explores not only the confusing concept of love; it delves into the many wondrous and exhilarating effects love can have on all of us. Almost, Maine written by John Cariani has quickly become one of the most popular shows, being produced on regional stages all over the country. Southern Utah University’s College of Performing and Visual Arts presents the warm comedy March 1-3 and March 8-10, 2012 at the Randall L. Jones Theatre in Cedar City. Curtain time is 7:30pm for all performances. Professor Richard Bugg, founder of the Neil Simon Festival, directs this production.

Almost, Maine takes you through one cold night as the northern lights hover above a remote town near the Canadian border. The production presents a series of vignettes described by The New York Times as “Magical...a whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance.” The residents of Almost, Maine, explore the diverse repercussions of love, ranging from letting go of love and realizing that you should say what is in your heart before it is too late. This production is recommended for anyone who has ever fallen or has been pushed into love.

The versatile ensemble cast features Ian Durrant, Nate Marble, Marco Vega, TJ Weddinton, Alex Allred, Jessica Winward, Heather Gibeson, Dory Peacock, and Brooklyn Renshaw playing 20 characters in a variety of love relationships.

The creative team, led by director Richard Bugg, is comprised of staff and students: scenic designer Brian Jude Beacom, lighting designer Bryan Sommer, costume designer Wendy A. Sanders, sound designer Amanda McMall and hair and makeup design by Molly Niderhauser. Elisa Black is assistant director and Elizabeth Haight serves as Stage Manager.

Almost, Maine is the perfect cold, date-night show. Ticket prices are: $10 General Admission; $8 SUU Faculty/Staff, $5 Youth and free for SUU students with a valid ID. The Theatre Arts and Dance Series continues with the song-filled adaptation Little Women the Broadway Musical in April. 
  
 ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree.
