TO HOST HIGH SCHOOL HONOR BAND CONCERT
FEBRUARY 18, 2012
Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: They are young, talented fledging musicians from high schools across the region – and they are coming to Southern Utah University. SUU’s Department of Music hosts High School Honor Band which culminates with a free concert at Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theatre on Saturday, February 18, 2012. This special concert begins at 6:30pm (please note the early curtain time) and the public is invited to attend.
The High school Honor Band features outstanding students from over 20 high schools in Utah, Arizona and Nevada. The students are nominated by their band directors and selected by SUU’s Dr. Thomas Herb, Associate Professor of Music Education, and Dr. Douglas Harris, Director of Bands at SUU. The student musicians come to campus for intense day-long clinics and rehearsals for the Saturday evening concert.
The program for the free concert will include seven selections including Geometrics No. 1 by Martin Mailman, Cenotaph by Jack Stamp and Ye Banks and Braes by Percy Grainger.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. More than 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over 550 majors in the College. Over 1100 students enroll each year in over 195 arts classes on the SUU campus. The College presents 100 performances, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions each year. The College’s affiliate organizations include the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery, American Folk Ballet, Utah Shakespeare Festival, and the SUU Ballroom Dance Company.
