WHAT:             The sounds of “thunder” pervade the air when SUU’s Wind Symphony performs in concert. The “thunder” will be a performance of John Phillip Sousa’s The Thunderer as well as the second movement of Ira Hearshen’s symphony, After the Thunderer, which is based on the original Sousa piece.

SUU WIND SYMPHONY IN CONCERT
FEBRUARY 17, 2012 

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: The sounds of “thunder” pervade the air when SUU’s Wind Symphony performs in concert on Friday, February 17, 2012. Directed by Dr. Douglas Harris, the concert will take place at Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theatre. The program will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $3 for students and youth and SUU students are free with a valid ID.

The “thunder” will be a performance of John Phillip Sousa’s The Thunderer as well as the second movement of Ira Hearshen’s symphony, After the Thunderer, which is based on the original Sousa piece. The evening also includes performances of Sparkle by William G. Harbinson, Third Suite for Band by Robert E. Jager, English Folks Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Football by Dmitri Shostakovich, in an arrangement by Dr. Harris.

A concert created to please all SUU Thunderbirds, don’t miss the SUU Wind Symphony’s February concert.  

ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. More than 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over 550 majors in the College. Over 1100 students enroll each year in over 195 arts classes on the SUU campus. The College presents 100 performances, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions each year.
