Alumni Band Concert @ SUU Department of Music (Heritage Center Theater, Cedar City, Oct. 12 7:30 PM)

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: The sounds of SUU´s Annual Homecoming celebration will be richer and bolder this year with the Department of Music´s first SUU Alumni Band Concert. This special one-night-only event featuring members of the SUU Wind Symphony past and present will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 starting at 7:30pm. The performance will be at Cedar City´s Heritage Center Theater. Tickets are moderately priced at $6 for adults, $4 for SUU faculty/staff and $3 for youth. SUU students are admitted free with a valid I.D.
With help from the SUU´s Alumni Office, former participants of the SUU Wind Symphony were invited to come and join current members for a grand concert featuring popular American music. Nearly sixty alumni responded and about forty have committed to making the trip to SUU to perform. With alumni and current students, the concert features an ensemble of nearly ninety musicians. Dr. Adam Lambert, Director of Bands at SUU, conducts the Alumni Band. The event includes a reception immediately following the concert. For further information, contact Dr. Lambert at adamlambert@suu.edu.
There is a lot of terrific anticipation surrounding this first-time event and Dr. Adam Lambert is thrilled to be spearheading such a joyous musical reunion. According to Dr. Lambert, "I have enjoyed getting to know former members of the SUU Wind Symphony, many of which are now music directors themselves. Should be a great event - I'm way excited!"
The evening´s program showcases the SUU Alumni Band performing a variety of popular American favorites. Highlights from the concert include four of John Philip Sousa´s all-time classics Stars and Stripes Forever, The Washington Post, The Thunderer and The Liberty Bell March. Additional program selections are Frank White Meacham´s American Patrol, Euday L. Bowman´s Twelfth Street Rag and a series of traditional American folk hymns.
The first SUU Alumni Band Concert promises to be a highly entertaining and nostalgic experience that is not to me missed. For more information on the SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts events, please call the Arts Hotline at (435) 865-8800, or visit www.suu.edu/pva/arts.
