FINCH LANE GALLERY EXHIBITIONS
Three new exhibitions at the Finch Lane Gallery
explore the themes of boundaries, time, and choices. The exhibitions
run October 4 through November 15, with an artists' reception on Friday,
October 4 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Matthew Allred's photographic series, Heliography,
uses handmade pinhole cameras and exposures that range from 24 hours to
six months, creating an arc of time across the sky. Matthew Allred will
present a gallery talk at 7:00 p.m. on October 18 during Gallery
Stroll.
V. Kim Martinez's multi-disciplinary installation, 7 Steps Forward 7 Steps Back,
is based on her experiences traveling routes used by Mexican/Native
American migrants for thousands of years along the now United States and
Mexican borders. V. Kim Martinez will discuss her work on the "Day of
the Dead" Friday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m.
BabyLit collaborators Jennifer Adams and Alison Oliver created
a board book series that brings classic literature with engaging
graphics to young learners. They will share their collaborative process
of creating this popular series at 8:00 p.m. at the opening reception on
October 4.
GUEST WRITERS SERIES
Thursday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m., prose writer Mary Ruefle presents her work at the Guest Writers Series. A lunchtime conversation is scheduled for the followin day on October 11 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Art Barn.
CITY ARTS GRANTS AWARDEES
Thanks to an annual
appropriation from the Mayor and City Council of Salt Lake City, the
Arts Council is able to award cash grants in five categories. The City Arts Grants Program
provides support to artists, arts organizations, nonprofits, and
elementary schools in Salt Lake City offering quality arts and culture
programs. All applications go through a public application and rigorous
review process by the Grants Committee of the Salt Lake City Arts
Council board.
