STATE OF UTAH, SALT LAKE CITY, DOWNTOWN ALLIANCE ANNOUNCE WINTER MARKET
Bi-monthly winter market at the Rio Grande Depot to begin Nov 9th.

Salt Lake City (October 14, 2013) – In a collaborative effort between city and state leaders and the Downtown Alliance, a winter farmers market concept will return to downtown Salt Lake on November 9th at the Rio Grande Depot with over 50 local vendors. Produce will be available, as well as a wide array of other local products, including meat, honey, jam, salsa and more.

“The Winter Market is another step in the direction towards a year-round public market in downtown Salt Lake,” said Alison Einerson, Winter Market Manager. “There is such a wide array of food produced locally and like the summer Farmers Market, the Winter Market represents an opportunity for families to learn where there food comes from and connect with local food producers.”
The Winter Market is a pre-cursor to a daily year-round public market that will be built in the Rio Grande neighborhood, and is based on the highly successful pop-up market sponsored but the Downtown Alliance last winter. The Rio Grande Depot will serve as a temporary home as the market ramps up awareness and attendance thanks to a partnership with the State of Utah Department of Heritage and Art.

With an emphasis on local products and produce, the Market will help to strengthen Utah's economy, while providing additional exposure for the Rio Grande Gallery, Rio Grand Café and other local businesses in the neighborhood. The Market will help support Utah ranchers, famers and other small businesses while helping to inject new energy into the Rio Grande neighborhood through positive use.
The long range plan aims to redevelop and revitalize the Rio Grande neighborhood and strengthen Utah’s economy to help support Utah ranchers, famers and other small businesses by leveraging the success of the Downtown Farmers Market. A public market has been a priority for Mayor Ralph Becker and the Downtown Alliance and is called for by the 2007 Downtown Rising plan.
