AN AUTUMN CHORAL CONCERT

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: As the summer fades from memory, warm up with a wondrous evening of song when Southern Utah University’s Department of Music presents an Autumn Choral Concert. The program features performances by SUU’s Concert Choir, Women’s Choir and Opus. Dr. Kevin L. Baker conducts the Concert Choir and Opus and Shannon Birch conducts the Women’s Choir. Scheduled for Friday, October 18th, the Music Masterworks Series performance begins at 7:30pm at Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theater. Tickets are $10 for Adults, $8 for SUU faculty/staff and $5 for youth. SUU students are free with a valid I.D. card.
The Autumn Choral Concert features a diverse range of selections from the classical repertory to some works from the Broadway stage to spirituals. The Concert Choir performs “My Shepherd will Supply My Need” arranged by Virgil Thomson, “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Gabriel Faure, “The Ground” by Ola Gjeilo, “Witness” arranged by Jack Halloran and “Jabberwocky” by Sam Pottle. Opus, SUU’s chamber choir, offers a program that includes “Dies Irae” and “Lacrymosa” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin, “Make Our Garden Grow” from Candide with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Richard Wilbur and “El Hambo” by Jaakko Mantyjarvi. The Women’s Choir performs "Nel puro ardor" from the opera Euridice by Jacopo Peri, "Lift Thine Eyes to the Mountains" from the oratorio Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, "The Lark Ascending" by Linda Steen Spevacek, lyrics adapted from poem by George Meredith and "Maidens Fair, of Mantua's City" by Giovanni Gastoldi arranged by Don Malin.
