Job Description: The Director of PPES plans, develops, implements, and oversees all aspects of a lively and diverse education program, related primarily to the UMFA’s collections and exhibitions and aimed at meeting the needs of diverse audiences. The Museum’s outreach efforts are exemplary, serving thousands of teachers and students across the state of Utah with a state-funded outreach program that brings professional development opportunities, inventive curricula tied to state standards, original art objects, and art making projects into classrooms across the state. The Director of PPES is proactive in identifying and orchestrating collaborative programming with other arts and cultural organizations throughout Utah. The Director of PPES is responsible for developing relationships across campus with faculty and University administration for the purpose of creating multi-disciplinary programs that offer audiences a variety of perspectives on the content of the Museum’s exhibitions, collections, and program. This individual will serve as part of the Executive Director’s Senior Management Team and reports to the Executive Director.
• M.A. in art education, museum education, art history or a related field.
• A minimum of three year’s experience in leadership position in an art museum education department or related experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven teaching skills and experience.
• Excellent organization, interpersonal, and decision-making skills, with demonstrated effective supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of current museum education philosophies, methods, and trends.
• Actively participates in the field, developing and maintaining relationships with other museum educators; attends and participates in conferences regionally and nationally.
• Proven grant-writing experience and success.
• Experience with financial and strategic planning in support of the Museum’s mission.
