FALL CONCERT
OCTOBER 24, 2011

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: SUU’s Symphony Orchestra is ready to usher audiences into the season with their Fall Concert. Led by director and SUU Professor Xun Sun, the evening is sure to be made beautiful by the glorious program. The concert will take place Monday, October 24, 2011, starting at 7:30pm in the Thorley Recital Hall located in the Music Building on SUU’s campus. The evening’s program will include the rapturous Joseph Haydn’s “Symphony No. 92,” which is more popularly known as the “Oxford Symphony.” Even though it was written for a performance in Paris, the symphony received its name after a performance where Haydn was awarded an honorary doctorate by Oxford University it 1791. The performance will also consist of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Symphony No. 38” which is his beloved “Prague Symphony.” Mozart is said to have created this piece to reflect his gratitude for the people of Bohemia, who had high esteem for his work.

Appointed to his current academic position in 2001, Professor Xun Sun is serving as Director of Orchestral Activities at Southern Utah University. His most recent performance was conducting the world premiere of the dance drama, Dream of Helen, with Hubei Opera and Dance Drama Theatre of China. He conducted the world renowned China Philharmonic Orchestra in recording a new CD of the Spanish Trail Suite, music by American composers Marshall McDonald and Steve Nelson.
