BICKERINGS, BATTLES AND BRAWLS!
SCENES FROM THE OPERA AND MUSICAL THEATRE STAGES
NOVEMBER 9 THROUGH 12, 2011

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: A diverse collection of classic scenes and songs from the opera and musical theatre repertoire based on the theme of Bickerings, Battles and Brawls! make up a highly entertaining evening for Southern Utah University’s Department of Music’s Masterworks Series. Performances will run Wednesday through Saturday, November 9 through 12, 2011 and be held at the intimate Thorley Recital Hall in SUU’s Music Building. Curtain time is 7:30pm for all performances. Pricing for the Music Masterworks concerts is: General Adult Admission: $8, SUU Faculty & Staff: $6 and Student/Child: $4. SUU students are admitted free by presenting a valid ID at the door.

Under the supervision of Dr. Lawrence Johnson, Assistant Professor of Voice, the evening features a variety of musical material. From the world of opera, selections include scenes from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni, Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Michael Ching’s Buoso’s Ghost, Giacomo Puccini’s La Boheme, and Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow. Popular songs from the musical theatre catalogue include works from Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s Camelot and Gigi, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Kretzmer’s Les Miserables, and Bill Russell and Henry Krieger’s Side Show.   

Bickerings, Battles and Brawls! is directed by Dr. Johnson with Olivia Biddle serving as assistant director. Costumes and make-up are under the supervision of McKenzie Denison while Tyician Charles Knight serves as stage manager. Accompaniment is provided by Sasha Bainson, Saya Hart, Kody Holt and Benjamin Morton

The performing ensemble is comprised of Clayton Barber, Alison Best, Olivia Biddle, Sophia Bona-Layton, Alex Byers, Mario Castro, Matthew Clegg, Trent Dahlin, Autumn Davies, McKenzie Denison, Brandon Dyck, Laney Fowle, Theora Hansen, Kelsey Hatch, TaraKay Horlacher, Taliah Lee Johnson, Tyler Knight, Christina Meikle, Hannah Melling, Tyler Melling, Samantha Ontiveros, Erica-Elly Paul, Geneil Perkins, Amanda Robison, Samantha Smith, Joseph Tarbet, Arielle Tholen, Sara Thorson, Aaron Walker, Gregory Watts and Sara Williams.

 ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree.
