Allison Sarmo was a charter board member of the City’s Commission on Arts and Culture when it began in 1990, she served as co-chair of the Commission for three years and then as the Commission’s Cultural Arts Coordinator for 16 years. The Commission is a City appointed and funded board which supports cultural development in Grand Junction, gives financial and other assistance to local arts and cultural organizations, supports local artists, and administers the City’s 1% for Art purchase program. Also a member of downtown’s Art on the Corner Sculpture Exhibit Committee since 1995, she managed that program for seven years in addition to her Arts Commission position. She retired from the City a year ago, but continues to be a consultant with the Colorado Creative Industries Peer Assistance Network, assisting non-profit organizations and communities throughout Colorado in the areas of public art, board development, and cultural planning.

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings.
