WHAT: For well over a decade, Utah native Greg Newbold, has been a successful freelance artist, his recognizable brand of artwork has been commissioned by such notable clients as Random House, Heinz Foods, HarperCollins, Smuckers, and Sony Pictures. His work is imaginative and accessible showing his distinctive ability to capture character. Mr. Newbold will present on his career and work as a part of the SUU’s Art Insights lecture series.

SUU’S ART INSIGHTS TO FEATURE

ILLUSTRATOR GREG NEWBOLD

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: For well over a decade, Utah native Greg Newbold, has been a successful freelance artist, his recognizable brand of artwork has been commissioned by such notable clients as Simon & Schuster, Random House, Heinz Foods, HarperCollins, Smuckers, Pilgrim’s Pride, Kleenex, Boy’s Life Magazine and Sony Pictures. His work is imaginative and accessible showing his distinctive ability to capture character. He will present on his successful career and his work as a part of SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series, Art Insights, on Thursday, October 13, 2011. The lecture begins at 7pm at the Centrum Arena, Section K, admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Greg Newbold’s work has been honored with merit awards from such groups as The Society of Illustrators (NY), Communication Arts, The American Institute of Graphic Arts, Graphis, the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators, Spectrum and others. Greg is a three-time Best-of-State Utah winner in Drawing/Illustration and was awarded the Best-of-State Statue for the entire Arts & Entertainment category for 2005. His work has been exhibited in New York City; Los Angeles; Columbus, Ohio; and around the mountain west. He has also illustrated several children’s books, including The Touch of the Master’s Hand (Gold Leaf Press), Winter Lullaby and Spring Song (Gulliver Books/ Harcourt) and The Barnyard Night Before Christmas (Random House).

ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. More than 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over 550 majors in the College. Over 1100 students enroll each year in over 195 arts classes on the SUU campus. The College presents 100 performances, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions each year.
