NEW EXHIBITIONS

5 Blocks
September 21, 2012-April 21, 2013
Presented in the Emma Eccles Jones Education Gallery, 5 Blocks will feature youth artwork created in collaboration with UMFA educators. Students at Hawthorne Elementary and Granger High School investigated a five-block area near their schools, examining how we shape the spaces we live in and how, in turn, those spaces shape us. The students then used their experience to create art in a variety of media.

Dale Nichols: Transcending Regionalism

Nancy Holt: Sightlines
October 19, 2012 - January 20, 2013
Nancy Holt’s pioneering artworks, such as her well-known, large-scale Sun Tunnels (1973-76) sculpture located in Utah’s desert, deal with memory, perception, time and space. A key member of the Land Art movement, Holt uses the natural environment as both medium and subject, focusing on humanity’s interrelation with the earth by challenging our understanding of landscape. Nancy Holt: Sightlines offers an in-depth look at Holt’s early projects and far-reaching body of work, which includes sculpture, film, photography, artist books and concrete poetry. Nancy Holt: Sightlines is a traveling exhibition organized by the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University and curated by Alena J. Williams, with the Salt Lake City presentation organized by Whitney Tassie, UMFA curator of modern and contemporary art. Major support for the exhibition and its programs is provided by the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in Fine Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

On view from October 26, 2012 - January 13, 2013
salt 6: Emre Hüner is the sixth project in the Museum’s series of exhibitions showcasing innovative art from around the world.
