Provo- Beginning September 1, 2012, season subscriptions to the
Utah Lyric Opera´s upcoming season will go on sale at the Covey Center for the
Arts. The series kicks off with two
revered Christmas traditions on December 1: Menotti´s Amahl
and the Night Visitors, a touching story about a crippled boy and his
mother who chance upon the Magi as they journey to see the Christ child, and a
"Sing-Along" of Handel´s Messiah. Local residents Tyler Nelson (San Francisco
Opera) and Diane Thueson Reich (Utah Festival Opera) are among the soloists
lined up for the season opener. Reed
Criddle, Artistic Director of the Wasatch Chorale, will conduct and Tim Slover,
well-known author of "The Christmas Chronicles" and "Joyful Noise" will provide
narration to the Messiah Sing-Along.
Possibly the greatest love story
ever sung, Puccini´s La bohème will
be presented February 8, 9, 2013 in a striking new production set in Paris during
the years following WWII. Utah
native Lisa Hopkins Seegmiller, who won a Tony Award and Grammy nomination for
the role of Mimi in Baz Luhrman´s Broadway production of the same opera, will
star alongside tenor Isaac Hurtado who received rave reviews for his portrayal
of Alfredo in last season´s La traviata. Elizabeth Hansen and Stephen Dubberly will
also return to direct and conduct, respectively.
The season closes with a musical in
the Brinton Black Box Theater, Enchanted
April written and directed by Emmy Award winner Elizabeth Hansen and music
and lyrics by C. Michael Perry. The
musical will run weekends April 11-May
4, 2013.
