APRIL 2013 ACTIVITIES AT THE OGDEN NATURE CENTER

Call for Birdhouse Entries -- 20th Anniversary!
• Entries due March 25 – 30
• Awards presentation on Wednesday, April 10 at 5:30 pm
• Exhibit showing April 11 – August 31
Get out your hammer, nails, glue and screws and pull out all the stops
to be part of this year’s twentieth celebration by building a birdhouse
for the Ogden Nature Center’s Birdhouse Competition and Exhibit. All
ages may enter up to two works, and there is no entry fee. Full

Wild Wednesdays: Signs of Spring
Wednesday, April 3 at 3:45 pm

$2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
All ages welcome
Spring has arrived at the Ogden Nature Center! Help us bring in the new
season. Come learn how animals and plants adapt to warmer temperatures
and longer days. We’ll hit the trails and look for signs of spring. Be
prepared to hear chorus frogs and keep an eye out for migrating birds.
Meet in the Visitor Center.
Preschool Discovery Days: Roots, Shoots, Springs and Sprouts
Choose a date and time:
Thursday, April 4 or Friday, April 5
9:30 am, 11 am or 1 pm
$5/Ogden Nature Center members
$6/ non-member
$5/child for preschool groups over 5
Come celebrate all things new at the Ogden Nature Center! Whether green
and growing, newly hatched, or shaky legs upon hooves setting out for
the first time, appreciate your own growth and development in the mirror
of nature. Pre-registration is required for all participants. Please

Earth Day Poster Contest Call for Entries
• Entries due by 4 pm on Saturday, April 6(late entries may not be judged).
• Awards presentation on Earth Day, April 20 at 11 am in the L.S. Peery
Education Bldg. There is no fee to enter. Posters musts be 9” x 12”
using the theme, “I Enjoy Nature By......” Please do not glue anything
on to your project. Entries must include the following information on
the back: name (first and last), school, grade (k-6 only), teacher, home
phone, and project title. Art posters will be on display in the Ogden
Nature Center’s L.S. Peery Education Building April 20 through May 31,
2013. Entries will not be returned, but may be picked up June 3 through
June 7. After June 7 contest entries become the property of the Ogden
Nature Center. Prizes will be awarded to three winners in each grade,
with one grand prize winner per grade. The winners will be invited to
the awards program on Earth Day.

Birds make their homes high and low, in nests, in holes or on rocks.
Explore the handiwork of nature’s feathered architects. Meet in the
Visitor Center.

All ages welcome
Monarchs are orange, Scrub Jays are blue, black and white skunks have a
message for you. Find out the many different ways that critters use
color in nature. Meet in the Visitor Center.
Earth Day Celebration (full media release with details to come)
Saturday, April 20 from 12 noon – 4 pm
$2 per person / donations gratefully accepted
Enjoy earth friendly exhibitors, entertainment, food, nature crafts, and
fun activities at Ogden Nature Center’s Earth Day Celebration! Local
beekeepers, urban gardeners, sheep shearing, and wool spinning will all
be part of the many attractions. Tour green buildings, explore the
trails and learn what you can do to improve the health of the planet.

All ages welcome
Check out songbird’s social media as you learn how birds communicate.
Listen to a songbird symphony along the trails as you learn to bird by
ear. Meet in the Visitor Center.

Class sizes are limited to ensure a quality experience. Call in
reservations over the phone and pay with a credit card or come in
person to pay with cash or check. The Ogden Nature Center reserves the
right to change instructors or cancel classes due to circumstances
beyond our control including, illness, inclement weather or low
