WHO:              Everyone is welcome to attend this presentation and discussion forum free of charge; the event will be of special interest to nurses, those who have served in the US or British military and those interested in wartime history.

WHY:              Nurses have much to learn about their rich historical legacy from the courageous women and men who served their country during periods of military conflict. Often, their stories include statements like "I didn´t do anything special," or "I just did what I had to do." These stories, however, illustrate their personal growth, their loyalty to their faith and their country, and their valuable contributions to the health and well being of others and to the progress of the nursing profession.

Nurses from Utah and those from Great Britain who served during a war have many experiences in common; their wartime experiences also have distinct differences. This event will showcase those similarities and differences through the presentation of a theme quilt and a discussion. Attendees with personal experiences during wartime interacting with the nursing profession are encouraged to share their stories.

The Nurses at War Project is administered by Nurse Practitioner and Commander Navy Nurse Corps Retired Patricia Rushton, Ph.D., with the purpose of recording, archiving and sharing the experiences of nurses who have served during a war. The project is intended to help others understand the role of nurses-military nurses specifically-in the service of their profession and their country.
