“Lenzi, Reynolds, Tachinni” Opens March 15 at Rio Gallery
Exhibition Features Work of Three Artists
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Arts & Museums announces the exhibition “Lenzi, Reynolds, Tachinni” at the Rio Gallery (330 S. Rio Grande, Salt Lake City). The exhibition opens March 15 and runs through April 26, 2013. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the exhibition is free to the public. There will be an opening reception on the evening of Friday, March 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll.
Kristina Lenzi, Gretchen Reynolds and Eugene Tachinni said they’re looking forward to exhibiting in the Rio Grande Depot. “We are completely thrilled about taking on the dynamics of this space with installation, photography, mixed media, puppetry and performance art. We each come from very different backgrounds but found our common ground in the term ‘structures.’ This group work had its genesis around the idea of observing social, political and personal paradigms. We’re looking at our personal connections to these paradigms and how they relate to each other.”
“We’re delighted to present an exhibition by this talented trio,” noted Margaret Hunt, Director of Utah Arts & Museums. “Each artist brings a rich background and unique perspective to this show.”
Kristina Lenzi’s work is about the “sociopolitical monsters” that lurk within American culture. Lenzi is an adjunct professor of drawing at the University of Utah and an adjunct professor of drawing, collage, performance art and color theory at Weber State University. She holds a BFA in drawing and painting from the University of Utah and an MFA from Tufts University.
Eugene Tachinni's installation is about how we choose to present ourselves within our social, political and economic structures. Tachinni has a BFA, MFA and MAT from the University of Utah, where he teaches photography classes for the Art Department.
Gretchen Reynolds’ work symbolizes the joy and unconditional love that exist in and around the places that Lenzi’s and Tachinni’s work inhabits. She holds a BFA and MFA from the University of Utah and has studied puppetry, modern dance and performance theater. She is an adjunct faculty member at Weber State University in the Department of Visual Arts and an instructor in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Utah. Reynolds will be presenting a puppet show at 7 p.m. on the night of the opening reception.
