Utah Arts Director Leaves for Colorado
SALT LAKE CITY — Department of Heritage & Arts Executive Director Julie Fisher announced Tuesday that a national search for a new state Arts & Museums director will begin immediately after the announced departure of Margaret Hunt.
“Margaret Hunt’s service and dedication to Utah’s arts community has been an asset to the state,” Fisher said. “We are saddened by the news that she is leaving, but hope she will continue to be a friend to Utah’s arts communities.”
Hunt has served as director of Arts & Museums, a division of the Department of Heritage and Arts, for more than eight years. She was appointed in January 2005 by former Governor Jon Huntsman. Before that, she served as director of community and economic development for Salt Lake City, and in the private sector as manager of economic development programs for Pacificorp/Rocky Mountain Power.
The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade announced earlier Tuesday that Hunt had been selected as the new director of its division of Colorado Creative Industries.
“It’s been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Utah,” Hunt said Tuesday. “I leave the Division of Arts and Museums in the good hands of an exceptionally bright, talented and professional team of colleagues. Working with this team has been an honor and a joy.”
Fisher said Division of Arts & Museums Deputy Director Lynnette Hiskey will serve as acting director while a search is conducted. Hiskey has served in the division for nine years.
Arts & Museums has the goal to promote innovation in and the growth of Utah’s arts and culture community. The division provides funding, education, and technical services to individuals and organizations statewide so that all Utahns, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or economic status, can access, understand, and receive the benefits of arts and culture.
