Senior BFA Portfolio Exhibition @ SUU (Cedar City: Mar 21 - May 4)


WHAT:                          This exhibition is the culmination of work created by Southern Utah University Art and Design BFA graduates and features a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, printmaking, illustration, and graphic design.

Senior BFA Portfolio Exhibition
March 21 – May 4, 2013

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: You are invited to experience the culmination of work in artistic excellence by the Bachelor of Fine Art graduates from Southern Utah University. Each spring the creative visions and achievements of these seniors from the University’s Department of Art and Design are showcased at this finale event, the Senior BFA Portfolio Exhibition. This event offers a chance to experience the collection of work created by these exceptional students, and this year showcases the honed talents of fifteen seniors in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, printmaking, illustration, and graphic design. The exhibition opens with a reception on Thursday, March 21, 201379 pm at Southern Utah University’s Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery and runs through Saturday, May 4, 2013. Regular gallery hours are TuesdaySaturday, noon to 7 pm. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

The two artists showcasing their talents in painting, drawing, and printmaking are Rebecca Smith and Mary SwankDerick Johnson will showcase his artistic achievements in illustration;
 and the artists showcasing their skills in graphic design are Ryan Birrenbach, Eva Chau, Keenan Fukui, Sydney Gordon, Mitch Grimshaw, Kohl HarrisMaggie HydeTaryn Katter, Chey Rasmussen, Ashley Ruff,Billy Tautua'a, and Courtney Terry.

Southern Utah University Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, Jeff Hanson is looking forward to showcasing the graduates’ high-quality work. “These young professionals have accumulated high-level bodies of work for their portfolios and have futures as artists and professionals in the world. This exhibition is a great opportunity for younger students and the public to experience some of the best work Southern Utah University students have to offer, and we encourage all to attend,” Hanson said.

The Senior BFA Portfolio Exhibition improves each year and is an event that should not be missed! The Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery’s mission is to exhibit, collect, and preserve historic and contemporary works of art significant to the interior American West. In addition, the Gallery hosts art exhibitions that represent the principal artistic styles and periods of world cultures. ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts, and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration. The College offers 16 different degree areas, including liberal arts Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; professional Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and theatre degrees; and a Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration degree. More than 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff are engaged in teaching and mentoring over 550 majors in the College. Over 1100 students enroll each year in over 195 arts classes on the SUU campus. The College presents 100 performances, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions each year.
